Photofacial

Photofacial, a form of IPL therapy, is also commonly known as photorejuvenation. A non-invasive, non-surgical rejuvenation technique can repair sun damage and address other skin concerns. At Skincare Laser Centre, our providers use Cutera Xeo as their laser of choice for IPL photofacial treatments.

How does IPL work?

Using a handpiece, the provider will create bursts of light to target the molecules in the skin. The light is absorbed by the melanin and the red blood cells, causing the targeted clusters to break apart beneath the surface and eventually fade away on the most outer layer of skin.

What can a photofacial treat?

A photofacial can treat a variety of skin conditions on the face including:

  • enlarged pores
  • acne
  • rosacea
  • sun spots
  • wrinkles
  • hyperpigmentation
  • acne scars
  • fine lines

Any part of the body can be treated, but the photofacial treatment works best on the face, neck, arms, and chest. As the name suggests, it is most commonly used on the face.

Expectations?

The procedure lasts about an hour – WE DO NOT apply numbing cream for this, however, we take extra care and precaution by cooling the skin PRE/POST treatment with ice packs, as well the handpeice has a cooling tip to it as well.

How long does it take to see results?

Every patient is different, so we cannot guarantee a specific timeline for results to show. However, most people report seeing results from their  treatment within a few weeks.

Am i a good candidate?

The best candidates for a photofacial using Cutera Xeo are patients with fair skin who have not been tanning recently. IPL is not as effective on darker or tanned skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

A photofacial, or photorejuvenation, is a non-invasive skincare treatment using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to target various skin concerns like sun damage, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. The IPL technology emits controlled light pulses that penetrate the skin, breaking down pigments and improving overall skin tone and texture. It’s an effective option for enhancing your complexion without surgery.
A typical photofacial session lasts about one hour. While numbing cream isn’t applied, we ensure comfort during the treatment by cooling the skin with ice packs both before and after. Additionally, the IPL handpiece features a cooling tip to reduce discomfort during the procedure.
Photofacials are designed to address a wide range of skin issues such as enlarged pores, acne, rosacea, sun spots, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and acne scars. The treatment can be performed on areas like the face, neck, arms, and chest, with the most common use being for facial rejuvenation.
While results vary by individual, most patients begin to notice improvements in their skin tone and texture immediately after their photofacial treatment. You may see a reduction in pigmentation, fewer fine lines, and an overall more youthful complexion.
Photofacial treatments are generally safe with minimal side effects. Some patients may experience mild redness or slight swelling, similar to a light sunburn, which typically resolves within a few hours to a day. It’s important to follow aftercare instructions and avoid sun exposure to ensure optimal results.
